Be COOOOLLLL…..with Dom Kennedy

As I go into the 25th hour….I’m really proud of my ability to grind it out man……this semester has be absolutely enlightening for real, and its shed a lot of little on weaknesses within the rendering in art that I was afraid to approach…..When being put in the spot light, it really makes you see every blemish and imperfection in your craft, but I think that its always good to address problems in the light then rather in the dark (that way you know exactly what to fix).  I feel like I can atleast look at my art (or attempt at it) with a more objective view, and know when though it looks cool, it can always be better…..It leaves me with a lot of catchin up to do in the summer….but I’m not afraid…..I’m ready to go full steam baby!

I was chillin at one of my home boys house and I heard about this cat named Dom Kennedy.  Within the last week of catchin up with my work for classes, his 4 mix tapes (the 25th hour, The best since Bobby, From Westside from love, and  FutureStreet/Drugsounds) have been on repeat on my Zune.  The dude is a California based MC that pretty much lives the philoshpy of “Be Cool”.  The concept relates back to the hip hop/rap scene and how people often times hate on other people that do the same thing that they do (such as battling rappers or battle rap beefs) and pretty much declares quit the bull shit and squash the negative chatter.  As Kennedy says “we are just doing our thing, we didn’t say that you have to like it, just appreciate us just as we appreciate those who do there “thing”. If you keep a positive attitude about your life, and if you contribute to a world of peace, unity and progress, you can be cool too”.  I suppose the reason the mentality resonates with me is because all too often as artist, in any fashion, we look at our work, rever it as the best until we find someone better than us, and often times hate on other peoples skills or abilities that we lack rather than try to help others get better. In a way, if you think about it, if someone is better than you, it almost behooves you to study with them so that you can just get better rather than waste energy with negatives thoughts about others and not progress at all.  I’m sure this blog seems to be jumping all over the place, however i’m probably not going to proof read this (so I hope the message makes sense).  But If anyone that reads this is interested in collaborating and making some really cool shit, let me know…….if not, that’s fine too…..but just be cool

(p.s. I would also suggest downloading the mixtapes from the website…..its FREE! I like the 25th hour and FutureStreet/Drugsounds the best…..but thats just me…..just be cool and go download the shit man!)
